Last June 7th, I scored a box of clean, cherry-picked 45s at a typical yard-sale price (107 singles plus 3 LPs for $10). Among them was a clean single by Jan & Dean: Batman B/W Bucket-T. Unfortunately, this particular near-mint record had a manufacturing defect: the groove is almost unplayable. It sounds like it's being played by a worn-out needle about to expire.

But I was impressed by Bucket-T and started searching for it on line. I ended up downloading pretty much all of Jan & Dean's material. I also found some interesting trivia.

Bucket-T had already been released a few years before on LP, but it was chosen to be the flip-side of their new single Batman. What is really creepy (in a dark, cool way) is that this is the very last single Jan & Dean released before Jan Berry's tragic car accident on April 12th 1966 that screwed up his life and career, leaving him in bad shape and having to learn to speak and walk all over again. This song ends with... you guessed it: a car crash!!! Eerie, isn't it? I get goosebumps everytime I listen to it.

Have a listen to this cool song.
